The 32-year-old equals his winningest season after a fantastic battle with last season’s Rookie of the Year
The heat in the South Dakota air could only be eclipsed by the action on track Friday night at Huset’s Speedway.
The L.G. Everist Huset’s Shootout presented by D&I Railroad prelim opened three nights of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series action at the Brandon, SD track and set the stage for a thrilling weekend. Garet Williamson and Sheldon Haudenschild lined up on the front row and gave the fans what they came to see.
It was Williamson taking the early advantage as Haudenschild slipped to third behind David Gravel. But it didn’t take Haudenschild long to recover as he ripped back around the two-time champion on the fifth lap and set his sights on the Fischer Motorsports No. 23 up front.
Haudenschild quickly reeled Williamson in and looked for the right time to make the move. The moment arrived on Lap 12 as Williamson slipped in Turns 3 and 4, and the KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 18 rocketed around on the top. Williamson returned fire with a slide job in Turns 1 and 2 that Haudenschild countered with a crossover. The fight wasn’t over yet as Williamson came back a few circuits later with another slider that cleared, but Haudenschild managed to drive under him to retain the top spot before a yellow flag cooled the action.
The ensuing restart allowed Haudenschild some clean air and breathing room as battles raged on behind. Both Williamson and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid tried to make a late run at Haudenschild in traffic, but neither had enough as the Wooster, OH native snagged the checkered flag and $15,000.
“I didn’t mind running second there to Garet,” Haudenschild said of the early portion of the race. “We got to lappers and were able to get by him. Then you don’t really want to see the restarts I feel like. I got to lappers, and it took me that whole last section to get by the 19. I couldn’t get him, and then you know they’re coming as soon as you kind of start slowing to their pace. But yeah, I was good. I could put my right rear right in that grippy spot on both ends. I felt like I had good drive.”
The win is Haudenschild’s ninth of 2026, matching his highest total for a season with The Greatest Show on Dirt. He’s up to 55 for his career with the World of Outlaws. Five of those have come at Huset’s, which equals it with Beaver Dam Raceway for the winningest track on Haudenschild’s résumé. He’s also the high point man after the Huset’s Shootout opener, and a solid Saturday should set him up nicely to chase Sunday’s $25,000 prize.
Garet Williamson slid by Kofoid in the final set of corners to take the runner-up spot and notch his fourth podium in the last six races with Fischer Motorsports.
Buddy Kofoid brought the Roth Motorsports No. 83 home third for his 25th podium of the 2026 campaign.
David Gravel and Carson Macedo completed the top five.
