POINTS UPDATE: Lead Changes for Second Straight Week, Fifth Time of Season

David Gravel and Brad Sweet
Latest points update after Knoxville

Keep up with the chase for the 2023 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship.

LATEST RACE(S): Knoxville Raceway (June 9-10).

CURRENT POINTS LEADER: The points lead has changed hands for two consecutive weeks. After losing the top spot last weekend, Brad Sweet bounced back with finishes of third and sixth at “The Sprint Car Capital of The World” – enough to jump into the lead. The Kasey Kahne Racing driver has moved to the top of the standings on three different occasions this season.

MOVERS:

David Gravel (+1): Friday proved to be a subpar showing for David Gravel, but the Big Game Motorsports pilot rebounded in a big way Saturday. The Watertown, CT native claimed his Series-high sixth victory of the season, which elevated him from third to second in points – only 14 markers behind Sweet.

Carson Macedo (-2): After entering the weekend as the points leader, Carson Macedo maintained command with a fifth on Friday, but an accident on Saturday left him with a 24th place finish and dropped him to third in points. He and the Jason Johnson Racing team are still in the thick of the battle – 30 points behind Sweet.

Bill Rose (+1): Plainfield, IN’s Bill Rose climbed a spot in the standings up to 13th over the weekend.

CLOSING THE GAP:

Gio Scelzi: Over the last few weeks, Gio Scelzi and KCP Racing have hit their stride. A pair of seventh-place finishes at KCP’s home track over the weekend upped Scelzi’s current top-10 streak to seven. The Fresno, CA native went from 66 points behind Sheldon Haudenschild for sixth to only 16 markers back.
