CURRENT POINTS LEADER: The weekend got off to a rocky start for David Gravel when a troublesome Heat Race put him in the Last Chance Showdown at Attica before finishing 11th in the Feature. But he and Big Game Motorsports rebounded in the strongest way possible by leading every lap at Sharon for their seventh win of 2024. Gravel continues to the lead the standings with Donny Schatz 54 markers behind.
MOVERS:
Carson Macedo (+1): Macedo took another step forward in his long climb to the top of the standings over the weekend.
Two podiums pushed the Jason Johnson Racing driver to third in points, and he’s only 14 markers behind Schatz for second. With 11 straight top fives under Macedo’s belt, the early struggles at Volusia feel long gone.
Giovanni Scelzi (-1): The driver who slipped behind Macedo was Series sophomore – Giovanni Scelzi. The Fresno, CA driver finished 14th at Attica – only his second time missing the top 10 this season. He bounced back at Sharon by taking the KCP Racing No. 18 to a fifth-place finish, but it wasn’t enough to keep Macedo behind him.
CLOSING THE GAP:
Michael Kofoid (6th): The first win of 2024 finally arrived for Michael “Buddy” Kofoid on Friday at Attica as he passed Carson Macedo on the final lap to steal it. The following night brought a solid seventh-place outing at Sharon. The two nights helped him close within eight points of Logan Schuchart for a spot in the top five.
