Latest points update after Tulare

Keep up with the chase for the 2024 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car championship.

LATEST RACES: Thunderbowl Raceway (Sept. 20-21).

CURRENT POINTS LEADER: A common thread of 2024 has been David Gravel bouncing back after a subpar showing, and he continued the trend over the weekend. After an uncharacteristic 13th at Merced last week, the Big Game Motorsports driver rebounded with a Friday win and fourth on Saturday to slightly pad his point lead.

MOVERS:

Michael Kofoid (+1): There’s being hot, and then there’s being on fire. The latter describes Buddy Kofoid and his Roth Motorsports crew over the last month. A third and a second at the Thunderbowl extended Kofoid’s current podium streak to seven and top four run to 11 in a row. The Penngrove, CA driver has now leaped into fourth as the season winds down.

Giovanni Scelzi (-1): It wasn’t a bad weekend for Giovanni Scelzi as he took the KCP Racing No. 18 to a pair of eighths and also led laps on Friday. But it’s hard to hold back a driver on a roll like Kofoid, and Scelzi slipped to fifth.

CLOSING THE GAP:

Sheldon Haudenschild (6th): Sheldon Haudenschild gave the fans a show all on his own both nights at “The Thunderbowl.” He took the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing ride from 18th to fourth on Friday and 12th to third on Saturday, passing a combined 23 cars. Haudenschild went from 134 points behind fifth down to 116
