JOHNNY’S PICKS: Lawton Speedway, 81 Speedway

Johnny Gibson's Picks

Curious which drivers you should keep an eye on at each World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event? Series Announcer Johnny Gibson will bring you his top-five* picks each week.

This week: World of Outlaws Sooner State Showdown at Lawton Speedway on Friday, March 28, and World of Outlaws Wichita Sprint Car Showdown at 81 Speedway on Saturday, March 29.

JOHNNY’S TOP FIVE:

1. David Gravel
Why: Until proven otherwise, Gravel will be number one on this list every week.  The defending champ is doing historical things – currently holding an 82-point lead with five wins in the first 12 races.

2. Carson Macedo
Why: He was the winner the last time the Series visited Lawton in 2021. And he set the track record at 81 Speedway last year – 13.023 sec.

3. Donny Schatz
Why: The 10-time Series champion is a two-time winner at 81 Speedway. With the exception of a crash due to a parts failure last week, Schatz had not finished farther back than he started all season. Just get the feeling something big is about to happen for the 15.

4. Cole Macedo
Why: Lawton could be the closest thing to tracks in his native California hometown that the rookie has seen all year. Crew Chief Wayne Johnson also has plenty of laps at Lawton AND 81 (and two wins at each).

5. Sheldon Haudenschild
Why: Sheldon has scored a top five finish in four of his last five starts.  Definitely trending upward. We could see this team being successful at both tracks this weekend.

You can follow these drivers and more all weekend at Lawton Speedway, March 28, and 81 Speedway, March 29, by getting your tickets in advance or at the gate.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch every lap live – with Johnny Gibson – on DIRTVision.
