7:45 p.m. Thursday – Hot laps are back underway!

7:17 p.m. Thursday – The changing weather has forced officials to adjust the schedule several times the past two days. At one point there was a possibility of running two full shows tonight, which would have meant Thursday qualifiers like Cody Darrah weren’t scheduled to hot lap until 11 p.m. For Darrah, a two-time winner on the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series circuit this season, a few extra hours of sleep would have been welcome given all the late-night festivities that happen during Nationals week in Knoxville

“I expected to start hot laps at 11 p.m. so I figured I would sleep in a little bit today. This week has just been a little bit unorthodox because of the weather, but coming into tonight it’s the first time we’ll be on the track in the Nationals setting and the excitement is all coming back. For me, every time I’ve been here before in this situation I’ve wanted to throw up with nerves, but this year I’m really confident in our team and really confident in our racecar and really excited to get on track and see what we have then make changes to get even better.”

7:15 p.m. Thursday – A light mist has taken over the track delaying hot laps, which had been underway for about 15 minutes. Terry McCarl is fastest right now with a 15.710.

7:02 p.m. Thursday – Jason Meyers is a two-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion who spent time after motor heat strategizing with his team about their approach tonight on a track that’s going to be lightning fast after being saturated by rain the past two days.

“It’s going to make it tough for everybody, but we’re here and we all have to deal with it the same. The strategy I think will be a little bit different. I think the biggest thing is getting in your head what the scenarios are for tonight and accepting them right here right now. You have to qualify good tonight and realize there’s a chance you’re probably not going to make it out of your heat and you’re going to have to come out of the B-main, but if you qualify well you’ll be on the front of the B-main so you have to get yourself set up for that a bit. You still go out and try to make it happen in your heat but the reality is that’s going to be very difficult tonight.”

7:00 p.m. Thursday – Hot laps are underway!

6:15 p.m. Thursday – Tonight’s on-track action is expected to begin at 7:15 p.m. with hot laps, followed at 8 p.m. by qualifying. There will be five 10-lap heats (top four to the A-main, next four to the B-main, and 2 to the C-main.) Eight cars will be inverted in the heats. … The C-main will be 10 laps, the B-main will be 12 laps, the A-main will be 25 laps, with eight cars inverted.

5:50 p.m. Thursday – The drivers meeting has concluded, trucks are packing the track, motor heat will begin soon. Here’s a list of Thursday qualifiers:
