JOHNNY’S PICKS: Cotton Bowl Speedway

Johnny Gibson's Top 5 Picks

Curious which drivers you should keep an eye on at each World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event? Series Announcer Johnny Gibson will bring you his top-five* picks each week.

This week: Federated Auto Parts Texas Two-Step at Cotton Bowl Speedway, March 21-22

JOHNNY’S TOP FIVE:

1. David Gravel
Why: He’s won at Cotton Bowl Speedway before (2018), leads the Series in points and wins, and is currently the best Sprint Car driver in the world.

2. Sheldon Haudenschild
Why: He’s a two-time winner at Cotton Bowl Speedway and has been (for the most part) trending upward since the World of Outlaws Bike Week Jamboree at Volusia Speedway Park at the beginning of the month.

3. Giovanni Scelzi
Why: He won and finished third at Cotton Bowl Speedway last year. Scelzi is also coming off a win in Texas last week at Kennedale Speedway Park.

4. Carson Macedo
Why: He won at Cotton Bowl Speedway in 2022 and led laps (20) last year. Macedo has also scored four top fives in his last five starts at Cotton Bowl.

5a. Garet Williamson
Why: He is now the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award. He also has more laps at Cotton Bowl Speedway than any other rookie contender.

5b. Skylar Gee
Why: Gee scored a podium finish at Cotton Bowl Speedway with the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region in 2017. He’s picked up his program, qualifying for the last four Series Features after struggling at Volusia Speedway Park. He earned his first top-10 finish of the 2025 season at the Talladega Short Track two weeks ago.

You can follow these drivers and more all weekend at Cotton Bowl Speedway, March 21-22, by getting your tickets in advance or at the gate.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch every lap live – with Johnny Gibson – on DIRTVision.
