On the road to the World of Outlaws World Finals, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will make its return to Kansas in mid-October.
For the second time in 2023, The Greatest Show on Dirt ventures to 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS for the Kansas Outlaw Klassic on Friday, Oct. 13. Then, it’ll bring its high-octane thrill ride to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS for the Micro-Lite Harvest Rumble on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Series’ visit to 81 Speedway in April was its first time back at the 3/8-mile track since 2017 and saw Rico Abreu score his first win at the track with the World of Outlaws. Of the current field of full-time Series drivers, 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz is the only one that’s visited Victory Lane there (2006, 2017).
Lakeside Speedway will welcome the World of Outlaws for the 21st time, or the 17th time on its half-mile dirt track. In 1991 and 1992, the Series ran on the track’s asphalt surface. There have been seven different winners in the last seven events – James McFadden (2022), Giovanni Scelzi (2021), Shane Stewart (2020), Donny Schatz (2019), Daryn Pittman (2018), Brian Brown (2017) and Brad Sweet (2016).
The two Kansas races will propel the Series to its final race week in October at Devil’s Bowl Speedway (Oct. 20-21) before the 2023 championship season concludes at the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Nov. 1-4. Sweet, the four-time and reigning Series champion currently leads the points battle – looking for his fifth straight title – will Carson Macedo and David Gravel are still close behind, looking for their first Series title.
