Latest Points Update After Boothill and Rocket

Keep up with the latest changes in the 2024 World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series Championship chase.

LATEST RACE(S): Boothill Speedway (Sept. 27), Rocket Raceway Park (Sept. 28)

CURRENT POINTS LEADER: Brandon Sheppard kept a slim lead in the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models points with three races remaining in the 2024 season. The New Berlin, IL driver had a strong start to the weekend with a fourth-place result at Boothill Speedway after winning the Bilstein Pole Award. On the other hand, Rocket Raceway Park was a rare exposure of vulnerability from the Longhorn Factory Team after having to make the Feature from the final Last Chance Showdown transfer spot and then suffered major body damage on the second lap of the Feature. However, he drove to a top-10 at the checkered flag to keep his title hopes alive.

One bad night can change the complexity of the championship, and “B-Shepp” will have to do everything in his power to have the perfect weekend that will reward him with the record-breaking fifth Series championship.

CLOSING THE GAP:

Bobby Pierce (2nd): Pierce started the southern weekend with a second-place result at Boothill after contending with Ryan Gustin for the win. Then, he finished seventh at Rocket – a new track for the Oakwood, IL driver – to cut his gap from Sheppard down to 44 points. World Finals saw the “Smooth Operator” stand on the championship stage in 2023. To do so again, he’ll need to improve on his finishes of 13th, 11th, and sixth at The Dirt Track at Charlotte from last year.

Nick Hoffman (3rd): Hoffman had a bounce-back weekend in his World of Outlaws championship hunt in a new look for the No. 9 NOS Energy Drink Longhorn Chassis. The Mooresville, NC driver began the two-day weekend in Louisiana with a top five, then took home a sixth-place drive to be Rocket Raceway Park‘s highest-finishing driver on Saturday night. With his performance, Hoffman cut his gap to Sheppard down to 50 points heading into World of Outlaws World Finals.

Ryan Gustin (4th): The Chinese yin and yang sign summarizes the Marshalltown, IA driver’s weekend in Louisiana and Texas with the Series. “The Reaper” won on Friday night at Boothill after a thrilling 50 Lap Feature between him, Dustin Sorensen, and Bobby Pierce. His weekend turned upside down at Rocket when he lost a left rear tire on Lap 8, then a right rear tire on Lap 15. Those woes stalemated any gains he made from the win on Friday, but Gustin leads a 16-point gap over fifth-place Kyle Bronson entering into World Finals.

Brian Shirley (7th): The Chatham, IL native managed to finish top-10 in Friday’s Bayou Classic after contact with an infield tractor tire ailed his No. 3S Bob Cullen Racing Late Model throughout the 50 laps around Boothill Speedway. Shirley responded on Saturday night by leading every lap of the Texas Torpedo 50 for his fifth win on the 2024 season. His major turnaround has him in contention for the top five in the championship, with 46 points separating him from surpassing both Cade Dillard and Kyle Bronson in the standings.
