World of Outlaws Visit Crawford County Speedway for the First Time on June 12

Fans,
Fans,

DENISON, Iowa — June 2, 2015 — The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has visited numerous tracks from coast-to-coast over the last 37 years. One they haven’t raced at is Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa. That will all change on Friday, June 12 as the best sprint car drivers in the world tackle the semi-banked, three-eighths-mile.

Crawford County Speedway will be the seventh track in the state of Iowa that the series has raced, dating back to the inaugural 1978 season. Located at the Crawford County Fairgrounds, the speedway has been hosting racing since the 1950s. The size of the track has changed over the years from its original design as a sprawling half-mile to the current semi-banked three-eighths-mile (four-tenths-mile around the top) configuration, with wide, sweeping corners. Within the last few years, the track has installed brand new grandstand seating and concession stand areas.

Tickets for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Crawford County Speedway on Friday, June 12 can be purchased online at: http://slspromotions.ticketforce.com and are also available at local participating O’Reilly Auto Parts stores, which offer a $5 OFF Special.

Last season, four drivers that are competing full-time with World of Outlaws events this season won races in Iowa, led by six-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz, who picked up two wins for his Tony Stewart Racing team. Also victorious in the Hawkeye State during the 2014 campaign, were 2013 series titlist Daryn Pittman, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing, as well as Shane Stewart, who pilots a machine for Larson Marks Racing, which is co-owned by rising NASCAR star Kyle Larson. Both of those drivers won preliminary races during the Knoxville Nationals. Also, third-generation driver, Kraig Kinser, won a race on Iowa soil last fall.

Schatz leads the series into Crawford County Speedway on the stretch of 11 wins in the first 29 races this season. The North Dakota native sits atop the leaderboard in a number of statistical categories, including laps led, top-10 finishes and top-five finishes. Shane Stewart, who has won three times this season, is currently second in points as has been one of the most consistent drivers during the first one-third of the season.

Brad Sweet, who is Pittman’s teammate at Kasey Kahne Racing, is currently fourth in points and has won a couple of races this year. The Californian picked up his first World of Outlaws win in 2012 in Iowa.

Rounding out the top-five in points is Paul McMahan in fourth, who has a couple of wins, and Kerry Madsen in fifth, who is chasing his first win of 2015. Madsen, an Australian by birth, now calls Iowa home, with his team based in Knoxville.

Also in action on Friday, June 12 at Crawford County Speedway will be veteran drivers Joey Saldana, Pittman, Jason Sides and Kraig Kinser, along with young guns David Gravel, Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen.

Sprint car legend and three-time World of Outlaws champion, Sammy Swindell, will also be in action at Crawford County Speedway. The Hall of Famer recently joined forces with Jason Johnson’s team to fill in for Johnson, who continues to recover from injuries sustained in a racing accident in California in April.
