CORNWALL, Ontario, Canada, July 28 — Shark Racing’s Logan Schuchart used a late restart to his advantage and finished third in the 40-lap World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway during his first visit ever to the quarter-mile, high-banked clay oval.
Schuchart, of Hanover, Pa., was running fourth when Kyle Fraser spun in Turn 2 to bring out a yellow flag with 39 laps down. World of Outlaws rules stipulate green-white-checkered finishes. Schuchart passed David Gravel, the driver who was third at the drop of the green for the restart, at the exit of Turn 4 working lap 39 for the second time to secure the podium finish with his #1s. Schuchart won the KSE Hard-Charger Award for improving his starting position more than any other driver. He started eighth in the 20-car field after finishing eighth in the dash and leading all 10 laps of the first heat from the pole. It was his second KSE award of the season.
Schuchart’s teammate, Jacob Allen, also of Hanover, Pa., finished 13th in the A-main after starting 12th in the Pell’s Tire Service #1a. Allen is also a KSE award winner this year.
Schuchart said the restarts helped him Sunday night. There were five caution flags: one with about five laps down when Cody Darrah spun in Turn 4; two for separate spins by April Wilson around lap 15; one at the halfway point when Wayne Johnson backed into the wall in Turn 4; and Fraser’s spin at the end of the race.
Schuchart was sixth at the halfway point. He got fifth by passing Kraig Kinser and he took fourth with 10 laps to go when he got around Paul McMahan. That set up the battle with Gravel, which went down to the wire.
Donny Schatz won the A-main after taking the lead from the second-place finisher, Kerry Madsen, on lap 11. Gravel ended up fourth and Kinser rounded out the top five.
“The yellows helped us out a couple of times,” Schuchart said after the race. “It was a slick track, which made it racy. Anytime you run well you like it!”
Allen ran in 12th place behind Lucas Wolfe for the first 19 laps. Brad Sweet got around him at the halfway point to relegate him to 13th. He was running between multi-time fast qualifier Joey Saldana and Darrah at the checkered.

Both Shark Racing drivers are rookies in the series. Schuchart is currently 13th and Allen is 14th in the national standings.
The next event is this Tuesday at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario. The series then appears at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo. Aug. 1-2 before the biggest event of the year, the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa, Aug. 6-9.
