New Richmond, WI — While he receives the accolades and the big check following a win, Craig Dollansky always is quick to credit his crew and entire team for their hard work and dedication, which play a very key component to being successful on the road with the World of Outlaws.
Dollansky showed the important of a total team effort on Sunday night, as he came out on top at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin to earn his second A-Feature win of the season with the series and his second career win at Cedar Lake Speedway.
The native of Elk River, Minnesota had a couple of different drivers chasing him over the course of the 30-lap contest, as first Jason Sides, who started on the pole looked for the top spot at the drop of the green. Sammy Swindell then moved into second and challenged Dollansky, before Jason Meyers moved into the runner-up spot later in the race and got alongside the leader a couple of times just prior to the halfway points of the race.
“It feels great to win,” said Dollansky. “We have a very strong team here and everyone works so hard and they certainly deserve to win. It’s been a long time since we won a race this year and it’s not from a lack of effort, that’s for sure. It takes a lot of work to get that done. We had a good dash draw which helped as well, but when you have something like that you have to capitalize on it. I was trying to not give the race away. I feel like I have given a couple away this year and was trying not to beat myself.”
Dollansky was out front for three double file restarts on Sunday night and chose the low line on the first two and moved to the top of the high-banked 3/8-mile for the final restart on the 14th lap aboard the Big Game Treestands Maxim. He used a strong start each time to charge into turns one and two as the leader.
“I did not want to give it away,” shared the veteran driver, when asked about the move to the top on the double file restart. “I was in the lead at Grand Forks (River Cities Speedway) and gave it away on that final restart and I didn’t want to let my team down tonight. My team has worked hard and we have had a couple of races slip away by my fault and a couple of mechanical problems. This is a great team.
The start of Sunday night’s racing program was delayed a couple of hours by rain, which marked the second straight night that rain pushed back the start of a World of Outlaws event. Dollansky had a large contingent cheering for him at Cedar Lake, where he picked up his second career win.
“Given the rain they got, my hat is off to these guys,” shared Dollansky. “They did a great job tonight. It’s great to win with a lot of family and friends here and with our car owner Tod Quiring in the house. I couldn’t be happier for everyone involved.”
Jason Meyers had a very solid night coming home second aboard the GLR Investments KPC, to gain valuable ground on Joey Saldana and Steve Kinser in the World of Outlaws championship standings. He now is just 48 points out of the lead The native of Clovis, California got even with Dollansky in turn one on the 12h lap in a bid for the lead and again the pair ran side-by-side in turns three and four on the 13th lap.
“It was fast tonight,” said Meyers, when asked about the track. “You do not see tracks like this much in the Midwest. We used to see them in California all the time, but not so much anymore. We had a good car tonight. My guys worked really hard after last night. We have been struggling here lately. We are just tying to find some consistency. Everyone worked really hard tonight. We made a lot of changes and made up ground each time we touched the race track. We learned a lot here tonight, but this is probably a one in a million race track.”
The native of Clovis, California got even with Dollansky in turn one on the 12h lap in a bid for the lead and again the pair ran side-by-side in turns three and four on the 13th lap. He caught Dollansky late in the race, but also had his hands full Swindell in the waning laps.
“I had a good run on Craig (Dollansky) there, but I think I showed him too much too early,” explained Meyers. “I could not clear him and showed him that the top was there. All-in-all, we had a good car here tonight and we moved forward, and that is what it is all about. After coming off of crashing a Beaver Dam last night, this is what we needed getting ready for “The Month of Money” starting here this week.”
Sammy Swindell picked up another podium finish on Sunday night coming home third in the Big Game Treestands Maxim. He lined up fourth and got around Jason Meyers on the opening lap and then had a spirited battle with Jason Sides for second.
“We had another good run tonight,” said Swindell. “We keep picking up these third-place finishes and if we keep doing that, we’ll win our fair share. I think I had something for Craig (Dollansky) if I could have gotten by Jason (Meyers). I was just having trouble from the standstill on the restarts and getting going. Once I got going and had momentum, I could get up there to those guys. We’ll just keep working on it.”
Jason Sides, who battled for the lead early in the race after starting on the pole, ended up fourth in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim. Paul McMahan, who began the night by setting quick time for a series-leading seventh time this season, wound up fifth in the Great Clips Maxim.
Jac Haudenschild was sixth aboard the Owens-Corning Fiberglass XXX, with Kerry Madsen in seventh in the Halls Haulage KPC. Lucas Wolfe came from 14th to eighth to win the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger award in the Allebach Racing Maxim. Steve Kinser came from 15th to finish ninth in the Bass Pro Shops Maxim. Tim Kaeding rounded out the Top-10 in the DTR Transport KPC.
Joey Saldana, the current World of Outlaws point leader, was running fourth on the 12th lap at Cedar Lake when he spun. He wound up finishing 12th in the Budweiser Maxim and retained his lead at the top of the World of Outlaws championship standings.
The World of Outlaws return to action on Wednesday, July 14 in the Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park in Ohio.
CEDAR LAKE SPEEDWAY NOTES
•FAST QUALIFIER: Paul McMahan paced the 22 cars that took time with an AMB i.t. timed lap around the high-banked 3/8-mile oval at 10.918 seconds at 123.649 mph. For his qualifying effort, McMahan earned five bonus points. The next four fastest qualifiers also earned bonus points, including: Danny Lasoski (4), Jason Meyers (3), Sammy Swindell (2) and Chad Kemenah (1).
•CEDAR LAKE SPEEDWAY QUALIFYING WINNERS: Craig Dollansky, Jason Sides and Kraig Kinser won heat races. Jason Sides won the dash.
