SCS_Lakeside4Wide_byTrentGower

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returns to Nebraska and Kansas in mid-October for the final two races of the 2022 season before the championship finale.

The Greatest Show on Dirt makes it first trip of the year to I-80 Speedway on Friday, Oct. 14, and then to Lakeside Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Both races will play key points in the 2022 championship with three-time and defending champion Brad Sweet currently leading the standings ahead of his closet competitors David Gravel (-72) and Carson Macedo (-98). It’ll be the final chance for them to gather as many points as the can before heading into the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Nov. 2-5.

WORLD OF OUTLAWS @ I-80 – Friday, Oct. 14
Track: I-80 Speedway
Location: Greenwood, NE
To Win: $10,000
2021 Winner: Donny Schatz

Notables: This year will mark the third consecutive year for the World of Outlaws at the 4/10-mile I-80 Speedway. In total, the Series has run 33 events at the track. The first was in 1995 with Mark Kinser claiming the first win.

Last year, 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz picked up his first Series win at the track. The year prior, three-time and defending Series champion Brad Sweet did the same. The two are currently the only active Series drivers who have a victory at I-80.

Carson Macedo, who currently has the most wins with the Series this year (11), is the only driver that finished on the podium in the last two World of Outlaws races at the track. He and his Jason Johnson Racing crew have put together a solid run recently, scoring four victories in the last 12 races and nine podium finishes. And of those victories, one came at the 4/10-mile Jackson Motorplex.

WORLD OF OUTLAWS @ Lakeside – Saturday, Oct. 15
Track: Lakeside Speedway
Location: Kansas City, KS
To Win: $10,000
2021 Winner: Giovanni Scelzi

Notables: The World of Outlaws has a unique history with Lakeside Speedway. Its first four events at the track – between 1991 and 1992 – where run as pavement Sprint Car races. Then the Series didn’t return to the speedway until 2001 when it became its current half-mile dirt track configuration.

Last year, Giovanni Scelzi became the sixth different winner in the last six Series races at the track. He held off 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz to score his first Lakeside Speedway triumph.

Schatz has the most wins of active drivers at the track with two (2015, 2019). And like I-80 Speedway, he and reigning champion Brad Sweet are the only two drivers on the World of Outlaws tour that have a victory at Lakeside. Sweet’s came in 2016.
