Back in the Saddle: Jason Johnson Returns to World of Outlaws Competition this Week at Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS City, Kan. – June 29, 2015 – The last two and a half months have gone by a little slow for Jason Johnson. While his fellow World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competitors raced 26 times during that span, Johnson waited patiently to heal up, after suffering fractured vertebrae in an accident in California on April 5.

Johnson, who hails from Eunice, Louisiana, and is the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, will return to action this week on Wednesday, July 1 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City as O’Reilly Auto Parts Presents the Outlaws at Lakeside.

Schatz Continues Torrid Outlaws Pace

Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR) driver Donny Schatz and his Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance team continue to rack up incredible numbers in the rugged World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series. After having their five-race winning streak ended Wednesday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan, the team returned to victory lane Saturday at Beaver Dam (Wis.) Raceway after Schatz drove the TSR No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance J&J from 10th to first in the 40-lap Jim Boyd “JB” Memorial.

“This Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance team, you don’t count them out,” Schatz said following his 17th WoO A-Feature triumph of 2015. “It doesn’t matter if we start 10th or 20th. They have got their game face on, they are really motivated right now. They are really on top of things. To get this win is good, especially since we felt like one eluded us Wednesday night at I-96. Tenth is generally a long way back to be coming from in 40 laps. I was pretty confident my crew would give me a car capable of racing our way into contention and they certainly did again tonight. If there is one car in the pit area you want to get in and one group of guys you want to race with it, it’s this Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance car and team.”

Saldana finished a very competitive third at Beaver Dam, Wisc. Saturday, June 27, and he is excited about going to Lakeside with momentum on his side. Though he has raced well at Lakeside in the past, he has yet to score a victory there.

The reigning World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion battled through traffic from a 10th place starting position and around leader Daryn Pittman late in the race to score his 17th win of the season and the night’s KSE Racing Hard Charger Award.

“This race team, you don’t count them out,” Schatz said of his No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies team. “It doesn’t matter if we start 10th or 20th. They’ve got their game face on, they’re really motivated right now, they’re really on top of things. The more people mess with them, the more they work hard so that obviously showed tonight.”

Storybook Ending: Brad Sweet Earned Gutsy Win at Beaver Dam Raceway Last Year

Storybook Ending: Brad Sweet Earned Gutsy Win at Beaver Dam Raceway Last Year

BEAVER DAM, Wisc. — June 24, 2015 — Less than 24 hours before he won last year at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin, World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series driver Brad Sweet was involved in one of the most scary accidents in series history, during an event in Iowa. The wreck tore his car in half and left him with a broken ankle. Sitting in the hospital still at 6 a.m. on race morning, he was not sure if he would even be able to race at Beaver Dam.

After getting released from the hospital later that morning, he made the trip north to Wisconsin to compete at Beaver Dam. With the help of his crew, who quickly put together a new car for him, Sweet was back behind the wheel and by the end of the night was hoisting the trophy for picking up the win. Sweet, who drives the No. 49 for Kasey Kahne Racing, returns to Beaver Dam Raceway this weekend for the Sixth Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial Presented by Karavan Trailers on Saturday, June 27.

Consistently Fast: Paul McMahan Seeks to Translate Quick Car into Wins

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa — June 24, 2015 — Paul McMahan has had a fast race car for most of the season with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, he just hasn’t had the best of luck. Last week he was leading a race when a lapped car got into him, ending his night. On other occasions, misfortune has popped up, thwarting several potential strong runs.

McMahan, who drives the No. 51 for CJB Motorsports, looks to turn his luck around this week, as the World of Outlaws hit the track three times, including a visit to 34 Raceway in Iowa. The World of Outlaws will be in action at 34 Raceway on Friday, June 26, with a full night of racing on tap, beginning with hot laps, followed by qualifying time trials, heat races, a dash, Last Chance Showdown and 30-lap main event that will pay $10,000 to the winner.
