BRIDGEPORT, NJ – To wrap up its five-race Northeast swing, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on Tuesday, May 21, will make the trip to Bridgeport Speedway — the Series’ first return to the track since 2003.
However, this trip will be unlike any other.
The Series may be making a return to the speedway, but the track itself is entirely new. Known as the “The Fastest Dirt Track in the East” Bridgeport Speedway was a quick 5/8-mile track. Now, to open up options to run 410 Sprint Cars, Wingless Sprint Cars, Small Block Modifieds and other division, a smaller bull-ring style 3/8-mile track called Design for Vision/Sunglass Central Speedway was built inside it.
When the Series raced on the 5/8-mile version of the speedway, Sammy Swindell was king. Of the seven races there, he won five. Now, with no official Series track record or previous winner at the 3/8-mile configuration, a new king can be crowned. And drivers are excited for that opportunity.
“I’m all for new tracks,” said Watertown, Conn.-native David Gravel. “Nobody’s been there at the new configuration. Everybody is at an even playing field. I like that. Hopefully we can adapt better than others and have a good night.”
There have been four races on a 3/8-mile track, so far this year, each producing a different winner. Logan Schuchart won at the Stockton Dirt Track, Brad Sweet won at USA Raceway, Lance Dewease won at Lincoln Speedway and Gravel won at Keller Auto Speedway.
All four races put on a thrilling show for race fans, with late race battles for the lead. Bridgeport Speedway is sure to be another thrill ride, showing why the World of Outlaws is The Greatest Show on Dirt.
Following the Series’ return to Bridgeport Speedway, the World of Outlaws on Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25, will compete in the inaugural Patriot Nationals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
