Statistics Show Parity within World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series

Five winners in five races and no fast qualifier has finished on the podium

TULARE, Calif. — March 13, 2012 — Coming off a season when Jason Meyers claimed his second consecutive World of Outlaws championship by a huge margin, this year is setting up to be one of parity.

With a dozen teams committed full time for the 2012 campaign, the first five races have produced similarity. And it shows in the statistics.

There have been five winners – Danny Lasoski, Donny Schatz, Craig Dollansky, Tim Kaeding and Joey Saldana – while Chad Kemenah is the only other driver to lead a feature lap. Kemenah has also been the fast qualifier at two events – the only racer to accomplish more than one.

Meyers, Sammy Swindell and Daryn Pittman also garnered quick times, meaning that no fast qualifier has won a feature so far this season. In fact, no quick-timer has finished on the podium of that event.

However, the dash winner and polesitter has claimed the main event in all but one race this season – when Dollansky took the lead on the opening lap from his outside front row starting position.

Meanwhile the KSE Hard Charger Award winner has picked up at least 11 positions in all but one feature. Overall, Swindell, Schatz, Kraig Kinser, Jason Sides and Brian Brown have averaged 11 positions gained in the main events to earn that honor.

There is one position that hasn’t fared well. The Last Chance Showdown winner hasn’t recorded a top-15 finish this season. Terry McCarl placed 18th to be the highest finisher of any Last Chance Showdown Winner. Greg Hodnett and Jac Haudenschild each placed last – 24th – while Bobby McMahan was 23rd and Daryn Pittman was 22nd when they reached the feature after winning the Last Chance Showdown.

The top 10 in points are separated by 87 markers and the first seven by only 43. Swindell, a three-time World of Outlaws champion, leads four-time champ Donny Schatz by 15 points. Sides, Meyers, Kinser and Saldana aren’t far behind with 20-time champion Steve Kinser in seventh.

A total of 16 drivers have competed in all five races this season.

This weekend the World of Outlaws will compete on Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. Live text updates of the event will be posted at www.WorldofOutlaws.com and audio will be streamed at www.DIRTVision.com.
