A new addition to the legacy of dirt Late Model racing in Wisconsin is coming this weekend.
When the World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision rolls into 141 Speedway for two nights of racing (Friday-Saturday, June 19-20), the Maribel, WI facility will become the 13th different track in the “Badger State” to host The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet.
Since the Series’ inception in 1988, Wisconsin has been home to multiple signature events and plenty of unforgettable moments. Before we make some new memories this weekend, take a look back at how we got here.
Cedar Lake Speedway: The World of Outlaws wouldn’t be what it is today without Cedar Lake.
The track in New Richmond, WI has hosted 43 World of Outlaws races, a number topped only by Volusia Speedway Park, Lernerville Speedway and The Dirt Track at Charlotte. It all started in the inaugural season of the World of Outlaws in 1988, when the tour made two trips to Cedar Lake. Once in June for a doubleheader split by Billy Moyer and Rick Egersdorf, then again in August for a race they decided to call the USA Nationals. Moyer swept the weekend to become the first winner of what would become one of the sport’s crown jewel events.
Moyer continued his Cedar Lake dominance in the second USA Nationals in 1989 before the Series went on hiatus at the end of the season. The USA Nationals continued under a variety of sanctions over the next two decades until finally finding a home back on the World of Outlaws schedule in 2010, where it has remained ever since.
Moyer is still leading the way with five USA Nationals victories, but ono one has won it more under the World of Outlaws banner than Jonathan Davenport. “Superman” conquered Cedar Lake for the first time as part of his unstoppable 2015 season in the Rumley Enterprises No. 6, then won twice more in his current Double L Motorsports No. 49 ride in 2021 and 2022.
The USA Nationals reached new levels of prestige in 2025 when the purse was elevated to $100,000-to-win, and it was Ryan Gustin who collected a career-high payday with his first crown-jewel triumph.
Mississippi Thunder Speedway: From Cedar Lake, follow the Mississippi River south for about two hours, and you’ll end up at Wisconsin’s newest premier dirt racing facility.
Mississippi Thunder spent most of its existence hosting local and regional-level competition until the Timm family purchased it and gave it a complete facelift. The goal was to bring national-level competition to their home track, and they achieved it in the form of the inaugural Dairyland Showdown in 2021.
Since then, the track has been praised by both fans and racers as one of the top tracks in the country in terms of both the infrastructure and the racing surface, which is known to produce thrilling battles in any division that races on it. The three-day Dairyland Showdown has become one of the cornerstone events on the World of Outlaws schedule, with a list of winners that includes the likes of Chris Madden, Mike Marlar, Nick Hoffman plus two-time and defending winner Ryan Gustin.
Shawano Speedway: In the second season of the World of Outlaws in 1989, the 1/2-mile on the Shawano County Fairgrounds hosted the top Late Model drivers in the nation for the first time, with Rick Egersdorf walking away victorious.
The track’s location 45 minutes northwest of Green Bay made it an ideal place for a midweek stop between the Prairie Dirt Classic and the USA Nationals, and that’s exactly what happened every year between 2010 and 2019. Darrell Lanigan and Shane Clanton combined to dominate Shawano, scoring three wins each during that span. Shawano has also seen a first-time Series winner, as Gregg Satterlee earned his first of four World of Outlaws wins to date there in 2013.
Gondik Law Speedway: Back in 1989, the inaugural World of Outlaws race in Superior, WI was won by a 25-year-old relative newcomer to national Late Model racing by the name of Scott Bloomquist.
That win was the first of 33 with the World of Outlaws in the career of one of the greatest of all time, and it all started at the 3/8-mile at the northern tip of the state. The tour would return 21 years later for a race won by Wisconsin’s own Jimmy Mars in 2010, then it was Tim McCreadie’s turn in 2013. Gondik Law welcomed the World of Outlaws on back-to-back years for the first time in 2020 and 2021, with Brandon Sheppard winning on both occasions.
Beaver Dam Raceway: Beaver Dam has been home to a pair of first-time World of Outlaws winners in the three Series races it hosted. Dennis Erb Jr. made his first trip to Victory Lane in 2007, then Jason Feger did the same in 2009 with a dominant flag-to-flag performance.
A 2020 visit won by Jimmy Owens turned out to be the last one, as the track closed at the end of the 2025 season.
Plymouth Dirt Track: Brandon Sheppard has dominated at a lot of different tracks across the country, and Plymouth is certainly near the top of that list.
The World of Outlaws raced at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds three years in a row between 2018 and 2020, and Sheppard and Rocket1 Racing were victorious on all three occasions. The three-peat didn’t come easy, as Sheppard had to fend off a last-corner rally from Devin Moran in 2018 and a hard-charging Chase Junghans in traffic in 2019, but Sheppard came out on top each time.
Red Cedar Speedway: The World of Outlaws made its way to Menomonie, WI three times between 2019 and 2022, with Chase Junghans claiming the first visit for his third Series win. The return trip in 2021 went to Brandon Sheppard after an excellent race-long battle with Cade Dillard, then Mike Marlar snatched the lead from Ricky Weiss to win in 2022.
Outagamie Speedway: The most recent World of Outlaws race in the Green Bay area – prior to this weekend’s debut at 141 – came at Outagamie, which hosted the Series twice in 2020 and 2021. Brandon Sheppard added the track to the long list of places he’s won at in 2020 after passing Midwest regional star Jason Rauen with 18 laps to go. Then in 2021, Cade Dillard outdueled both Sheppard and Brandon Overton to collect the fourth World of Outlaws win of his career.
Madison International Speedway: Madison is best known as a hallmark of pavement Super Late Model racing and a regular stop for the ARCA Menards Series, but there was a brief period in the 1980s when it operated as a dirt track.
The 1988 season included a visit by the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series that Steve Kinser topped before the Late Models were brought in for 1989. Billy Moyer took the checkers on that night, one of 12 wins that season on the way to his second Series championship in as many years.
Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway: Sitting one mile from the shores of Lake Winnebago, the 1/3-mile oval in Oshkosh hosted its lone World of Outlaws race in 2017. The night brought another Brandon Sheppard masterclass in Wisconsin, as the five-time champion won by more than five seconds over Don O’Neal.
The track closed at the end of the 2017 season and has sat dormant ever since.
ABC Raceway: Much like Oshkosh, ABC Raceway has also been the site of one World of Outlaws race, and that race was won by Brandon Sheppard. Rain put the Feature on pause for 35 minutes after 18 laps, but Sheppard remained on top for all 50 scheduled laps just the same.
Wilmot Raceway: Wilmot became the 12th different Wisconsin track that the Series has been to last year with its Monday stop after the Prairie Dirt Classic. Ryan Gustin collected the $12,000 winner’s prize to kick off an unforgettable week, which concluded at Cedar Lake with his first USA Nationals victory.
Wilmot may not be on the schedule in 2026, but it remains an annual stop for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. World of Outlaws regular Drake Troutman swooped in and won in 2025, while reigning Hell Tour champion Jason Feger earned his second win of the 2026 campaign on Monday night.
The World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision returns to Wisconsin for its first visit to 141 Speedway on Friday and Saturday, June 19-20. Get your tickets in advance by clicking here.
