At A Glance: Outlaws to Shake up South Central
The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series heads to Ponderosa Speedway (Ky.) on Friday, May 6 and Smoky Mountain Speedway (Tenn.) on Saturday, May 7.
CONCORD, N.C. – May 3, 2016 – With nearly one-fifth of the season completed and one quarter of the states traveled, the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series will make its second-ever stop at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky. on May 6 and then head to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. on May 7.
Pick your Poison:
With five wins in 10 races, it’s a consensus among all competitors that Josh Richards is the man to beat.
Richards, the current points leader, has yet to miss a feature event. He has finished all but one race in the Top 5 this season.
But as strong as Richards has been, the 14 other full-time drivers must also compete with the regional and local favorites. In back-to-back racing weekends, a non-Platinum driver has won the A-Main (McDowell, 4/8; Milliken, 4/30).
Shoe is on the other foot:
At this point in the series last year, Shane Clanton – the eventual 2015 points champion – led Darrell Lanigan and Richards by as many as 92 points. In both races, the trio recorded Top 10 performances. None of the drivers won the A-Main, and Clanton opened up his lead by as many as 94 points – with the same order.
The middle-man of 2015: Darrell Lanigan. In 2016 however, Lanigan is not there to split up the Clanton-Richards points battle. The two Outlaws are one-two heading into Ponderosa Speedway, but this time Richards has the upper-hand with a 130-point buffer.
Ticket information:
Tickets for the 24th annual Kentucky Klassic at Ponderosa Speedway will be available at the gate on the day of the event and are $30 for general admission. Children ages 6 to 12 are $10. Pre-sale tickets are still available by visiting Ponderosa Speedway’s website at ponderosaspeedway.net.
Tickets for the 4th annual Mountain Outlaw 50 Presented by Napa Auto Parts will be sold at the gate. General admission is $25. Children 6 to 11 are $5 and kids 5-and-under are free.
