Tony Stewart Racing Teams Return to Antioch, Mother Nature Washes Out Calistoga

Fans,
Fans,

Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Donny Schatz earned his second consecutive top-10 finish Friday as the World of Outlaws (WoO) STP Sprint Car Series continued action in California at Antioch Speedway. The driver of the No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet Performance J&J earned his eighth top-10 of the 2013 campaign and second in a row by finishing eighth in the 30-lap A-Feature. Steve Kinser drove TSR’s No. 11 Bad Boy Buggies/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet Performance Maxim to a 19th-place finish.

Friday’s race at the 3/8-mile track was the series’ third-ever event at the track. Heavy rain in the area during the week leading up to Friday’s race made for extremely fast track conditions. Schatz was 16th fastest in the field of 35 cars, which earned him the pole for heat four. A second-place finish in the eight-lap heat earned the five-time and reigning WoO STP Sprint Car Series champion the 10th spot in the dash.  He wasn’t able to advance in the six-lap race and started the 30-lap A-Feature on the outside of row five. Schatz passed fast qualifier Daryn Pittman and Jason Meyers early in the race and held eighth the rest of the way. Kinser timed in 19th fastest before finishing fifth in heat three. The 20-time WoO STP Sprint Car Series champion started 19th and finished in the same position.

Shane Golobic led the final 21 laps and earned his first career WoO STP Sprint Car Series A-Feature. The driver of the Joe Vonschriltz No. 121 became the 10th different winner in 12 WoO STP Sprint Car Series events in 2013.

Saturday’s event at Calistoga (Calif.) Speedway was canceled because of heavy storms and persistent drizzle in the area for most of the week.

Following Friday’s results, Schatz continues to hold fifth in the 2013 WoO STP Sprint Car Series championship standings and now has 1,558 points. He trails leader Pittman by 155 markers with 72 scheduled nights of racing remaining. Kinser ranks 12th with 1,416 points.

The California tour continues next weekend for TSR with events Friday at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif., and Saturday at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
