Sides Sets New Track Record at I-96, Adds Two More Top-10 Finishes

Inside Line Promotions – BEAVER DAM, Wis. (June 29, 2015) – Jason Sides created momentum last week with a new track record and a pair of top-10 finishes.

“It all started out with that new track record and went from there,” he said. “We had a good week all around. I think it’s real critical because that keeps your momentum going.”

The week began last Wednesday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., where Sides set quick time during qualifying for the first time this season. It was also the fastest official lap in the history of the track.

“I think we just hit it right,” he said. “The track looked wet, but as the cars went around there it peeled it up and made it more or less crumbs like a motocross track and a berm. It was real loose and fluffy. The more we qualified the bigger that cushion got. I just had a really good qualifying run.”

Sides then finished fourth in a heat race to lock himself into the dash, where he placed seventh to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

“It was real racy,” he said. “There was a top and a bottom. We battled with different cars, but always ended up in the same spot. We raced really hard with Christopher Bell for about 10 or 15 laps. I think if we had a few more laps we could have got a couple more cars.”

Sides battled just outside the top five for most of the race before posting a sixth-place result.

He ventured to Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday following Friday’s rain out at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.

“We got qualified for the front row of a heat race, which was good,” he said. “The bottom was just so much better than the outside. On the start (the polesitter) got a good run. He had much better forward bite and got the jump. I tried to slide him going into turn one, but he got around before I got to him and that was it.”

Sides, who qualified ninth quickest, finished where he started – second – during a heat race to advance into the main event.

“It went green for 36 laps and then we had a caution with four laps to go,” he said. “We were really good around the bottom. There was passing on the track, but the guys running the top were slipping and sliding. We were working around the bottom pretty good and got to seventh. The car was a little tight on that restart and David Gravel got by.”

Sides finished eighth, which marked his third straight top-10 result.

He is slated to compete this Wednesday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the O’Reilly Auto Parts presents the Outlaws at Lakeside and Friday and Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., for the Boot Hill Showdown with the World of Outlaws.
