Sides Highlights World of Outlaws Weekend in Desert With Top Five in Las Vegas

Inside Line Promotions – TUCSON, Ariz. (March 8, 2015) – Jason Sides continued his consistency with a trio of solid performances in the desert last weekend.

Sides nearly scored three top 10s with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series during a four-day span, which was highlighted by a fifth-place finish on Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas.

“It could have always been better, but it could have been worse as well,” he said. “We were expecting a win the second night in Las Vegas, but to get out of there with a top five was good.”

Sides kicked off last week’s competition on Wednesday during the FVP Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, where he qualified eighth quickest and finished fifth in a heat race to lock himself into the main event. After contending for a top 10 throughout the feature, Sides ended with a 12th -place result.

“We were too tight and we had a right rear tire going down,” he said. “It kept getting worse and worse. We weren’t very good.”

The following night started on a better note as Sides timed in fourth quickest before advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race, which locked him into the dash.

“We were really good in the heat and dash,” said Sides, who placed third in the dash to line up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“On the start of the feature I got screwed up a little bit,” he said. “I went into the first corner and fell back to sixth or seventh.”

Sides rebounded to fourth place before Donny Schatz got by him on the last lap. The fifth-place result marked the third top five of the season for Sides, who wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at USA Raceway for the NAPA Wildcat Shootout.

“It was windy and one lane,” he said. “We were in the third heat and the track got cleaned off.”

Sides, who qualified 12th quickest, battled with Joey Saldana for the heat race lead before ending second. That locked Sides into the 12 th starting position for the feature.

“They reworked the track twice during the night,” he said. “When feature time started everybody shot to the bottom. I’d say the track got cleaned off about Lap 4 or 5 and by Lap 7 it rubbered up and was a train race.”

Sides got in line on the bottom groove and ended with an 11th-plrace finish.

He will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.
