Inside Line Promotions – MINOT, N.D. – One of Donny Schatz’s most emotional victories came during the Gerdau Magic City Showdown at Nodak Speedway.

The 2012 triumph during a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event left Schatz choked up in Victory Lane, where everything came full circle.

“That’s the town where I grew up and that’s where my dad took me to watch racing on Sunday nights,” he said. “That’s where the love of racing started for me. To win in a sprint car is a dream come true. To race with the World of Outlaws is a dream come true.”

Schatz was also victorious during last year’s lone Outlaws event, which made him the first repeat winner in eight races. It gives him added confidence and momentum heading into this season’s World of Outlaws race on Sunday, Aug. 17.

“It’s a special place,” he said. “That’s the hometown crowd that has supported me since Day 1.”

Although Schatz has claimed the race the past two years, the previous six races were won by different drivers. Terry McCarl earned the inaugural triumph in 2006 before defending World of Outlaws champion Daryn Pittman picked up the win in 2007.

Jason Meyers, Danny Lasoski, Joey Saldana and Craig Dollansky also have garnered trips to Victory Lane.
