DYNAMITE FIVE: Humboldt Speedway

Ruben's picks for Humboldt

Curious which drivers you should keep an eye on at each World of Outlaws Late Model Series event? Series Announcer Ruben Mireles will bring you his five drivers to watch each week.

This week: World of Outlaws Humboldt Showdown at Humboldt Speedway, Oct. 3

RUBEN’S FIVE:

Dennis Erb Jr.:  Dennis placed second to Chase Junghans at Humboldt in the first and only visit back in 2022 with the Series. It’s been a great season for Dennis as he’s earned 19 top 10s with multiple podiums. That first win of the season has been close, but this weekend could be the weekend. As mentioned, he finished second here in 2022, and he also won $30,000 in 2023 at 81 Speedway with the Outlaws. That 28 machine is always fast in Kansas!

Chase Junghans: How can you count out the Kansas native? Entering the weekend as the defending winner of the event, the Outlaws are back in his backyard. Junghans placed in the top 10 at Arrowhead at had a 12th-place finish the other night. Junghans also has two fifth-place finishes in the PDC. With limited crew help far away from home all the time, he has an army of support this weekend. The former full-time series regular could earn wins 5 and 6 this weekend in the Sunflower State!

Tyler Bruening: The 2021 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year has been close to earning his first career Series win. We’ve seen some close chances this season and Humboldt’s a track he races good at. Bruening finished fifth back in 2022. He’s been qualifying well against the Outlaws lately. Ten career Quick Times to his name, and if he can qualify well again tonight and get into the redraw, we could witness see the 105th different winner in Series history. After seeing no new winners last year, 2025 has produced three already!

Brian Shirley: Coming into the weekend Brian Shirley has six straight top fives! Shirley won four of the last seven before Charlotte last year and it’s that time of the year this teams makes a late season run. Shirley sits fifth in the points standings, but only 16 points separate him from seventh place which is a $40,000 difference. Shirley didn’t run here in 2022, but racing at new tracks isn’t anything new for the veteran driver. I believe this track will fit Shirley’s driving style and will continue the top five streak with a possible win.

Ryan Gustin: It’s been a tough go since winning the USA Nationals for Gustin. His average finishing position is 12th since the big win. McCreadie who’s had an average finish of seventh since USA Nationals only sits 72 points behind Gustin in the standings. Mathematically McCreadie takes the third spot in points with seven races to go, but I believe Gustin will pull out a win this weekend in Kansas. He won with the MLRA series back in 2014 and has multiple USMTS victories including the King of America here at Humboldt. Having laps and experience is a major key to success and with a special weekend on tap “the Reaper” may strike this weekend!

You can follow these drivers and more all weekend by getting your tickets in advance or at the gate.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch every lap live – with Ruben Mireles – on DIRTVision.
