Sides Ties Career-Best Result at Castrol Raceway to Cap Oil City Cup

Fans,
Fans,

Inside Line Promotions – EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (Aug. 31, 2015) – Jason Sides capped the 9th annual Oil City Cup by tying his career-best result at Castrol Raceway on Saturday.

Sides finished fourth to wrap up the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series doubleheader, which marked his first top five at the track since 2011. He also placed fourth in 2010 and 2009.

“It didn’t start out very well,” he said. “We put a motor back in the car that we had some troubles with earlier in the year. We thought we had it fixed and was hoping for a better result. The gremlins are still there. We worked on it throughout the night on Friday and that put us behind the eight ball.”

Sides qualified 13th quickest to miss the heat race inversion by only one spot. He then finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race to lock into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“We never got to work on the car and the track was pretty slick that night,” he said. “It wasn’t a very good night.”

Sides ended with a 16th-place result, which prompted his team to swap cars prior to Saturday’s finale.

“We ended up changing cars and motors and it was a lot better,” he said. “It was so windy all day long. In qualifying it was right down to the bottom. Before the heat races they tilled it a little, but it wasn’t enough. The bottom was still the place to be. We fell back to fourth and then got back up to second.”

Sides, who qualified seventh quickest, ended second in a heat race to start the main event on the outside of the fifth row.

“They did a good job to till it and water it,” he said. “The dash was wide open when we watched it. Then the late models went out and it helped it get slicker. There was a bottom and a top.

“We got to eighth and then on a restart fell back to 12th. We worked our way back to 10th and then there was a crash that moved us up two spots. From there the car kept getting better and better.”

Sides maneuvered to a fourth-place result, which was his 13th top five of the season.

He is slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., and next Monday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
