Sides Set for Sunday’s ‘Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain’ on SPEED

CONCORD, N.C. — April 29, 2011 — The 2011 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign has been exciting through 11 events for Jason Sides. He has his #7s Wetherington Tractor Service/Dancer Logistics Maxim positioned fifth in the championship standings with victories at Volusia Speedway Park and Calistoga Speedway.

Even if he isn’t in Victory Lane at the end of the night, Sides still has made headlines. Racing incidents with defending series champion Jason Meyers in an intense Top-3 battle at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston followed by a run-in at Las Vegas with three-time champion Sammy Swindell let competitors know Sides won’t back down. With the Outlaws set to begin their Midwest tour on Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., the popular pony-tailed driver will be a guest on “Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain” at 9 p.m. Eastern/8 p.m. Central Sunday night on SPEED.

“I am who I am,” said Sides in a recent interview at his home in Bartlett, Tenn. “I’ll say what’s on my mind and call them like I see them. Some people may not like that but I’m not going to be someone else.”

Sides, who won the series’ most recent event April 2 in Calistoga, Calif., earned his first World of Outlaws victory in the 2004 Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway. Since then, the 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has added nine more feature wins to his résumé. Having finished fifth in the championship standings the past two years, expectations are high in 2011 for Sides, who celebrated in Victory Lane on a Saturday at the DIRTcar Nationals in Florida with his daughter Skylar and then promptly drove the team hauler home to Tennessee so she could be in school that Monday morning.

An off weekend and three consecutive rainouts have kept Sides and ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ off the tracks for much of April. With Saturday’s race at Tri-State Speedway and Tuesday’s “Battle of the Highbanks” make-up race at Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway, the Outlaws are set to continue the most grueling schedule in all of motorsports with all dirt roads leading to the World Finals Nov. 3-4-5 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
