Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 11, 2015) – Jason Sides continued his hot streak by recording a pair of top 10s last weekend at Eldora Speedway with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
That gives him four straight top 10s and nine top 10s in 11 races since the beginning of April. It also marked the first time since 2010 that Sides has earned multiple top 10s at the famed half-mile oval.
“It went really good for us,” he said. “It showed we can run there when the track isn’t favorable for us.”
Sides opened the doubleheader last Friday by qualifying fifth quickest. He then finished fourth in a heat race, but advanced into the dash thank to Rico Abreu, who qualified in the top four, winning his heat race.
“We started really well there the first night, but all hopes of making the dash were out the window until Rico won his heat race, which moved us up,” Sides said. “Unfortunately, we did not capitalize on that.”
Sides dropped from his second starting position to sixth in the dash, which lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“In the feature we ran around there in sixth or seventh most of the race,” he said. “Greg Wilson showed me the bottom and I tried that. I was not near tight enough to run down there.”
Sides lost a couple of positions trying the bottom lane and he finished ninth.
The weekend concluded on Saturday, when the action was delayed because of a rain storm. Once the competition began Sides qualified seventh quickest and finished fourth in a heat race to lock into the 11th starting position for the main event.
“On the initial start we got a couple of cars,” he said. “It stuck around the bottom really well for probably the first four or five laps and then I moved up to the middle where everybody else was running. We made some changes from the first night that really helped on Saturday.”
Sides rallied to score a sixth-place finish, which was his best result at Eldora Speedway since winning in 2009.
“Just to get out of there with a pair of top 10s is a big boost heading to Pennsylvania,” he said. “If we can get a good pill draw and get qualified well I know we can run up front.”
Sides is heading into a busy weekend with the World of Outlaws, which has events Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash; Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup; and Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., for the Empire State Challenge.
