Inside Line Promotions – PERRIS, Calif. (April 21, 2015) – Jason Sides wrapped up the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series spring swing along the West Coast last weekend.
“We had a solid West Coast swing, but we’re excited to head to the Midwest and East Coast in the near future,” he said. “California is a long way from home so it’ll be nice to be within driving distance throughout a lot of the spring.”
Sides kicked off last weekend on Friday by qualifying 14th quickest at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., which missed a spot in the heat race inversion by only two positions. He then finished sixth in a heat race to lock into the main event, where he started on the outside of the seventh row.
“They ended up watering the pits more than the race track,” he said. “It was a dusty mess. Everybody was beating and banging on the top. We tried going somewhere they weren’t. We’d get a few cars and then miss our mark and they’d get back by.”
Sides ended with a 12th-place finish.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway, where he timed in 13th quickest during SoCal Showdown qualifying before tackling the World of Outlaws new format when the car count is less than 20. Sides advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race and from fourth to third place in a qualifier to garner the 13th starting position for the main event.
“The first three or four cars were battling pretty good and back where I was, myself, Kraig (Kinser) and (David) Gravel were in a bundle fighting it out amongst ourselves,” he said. “I’ve never really had any success there so a top 10 was good for us.”
Sides capped the event with a 10th-place result.
He resumes competition this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the $20,000-to-win Texas Outlaw Nationals with the World of Outlaws. Sides finished 10th and 13th, respectively, during the event last year.
“We were pretty good and I look forward to getting back there,” he said. “I’ve never had any wins at Devil’s Bowl, but have had some good runs. It should be a good weekend.”
