Sides Caps Busy Week with Top-Five Finish at Nodak Speedway

Fans,
Fans,

Inside Line Promotions – MINOT, N.D. (Aug. 24, 2015) – Jason Sides captured his 11th top five of the season with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Sunday to wrap up a busy week.

Sides earned a fourth-place result at Nodak Speedway, which marked his first top five since July 4.

“It’s a really nice facility and a nice track,” he said. “There was a top and a bottom to really race well there. I enjoy going there. It’s like our track at home where I grew up on.”

That comfort level showed up from the start of the night as Sides qualified 10th quickest, which started him on the pole of a heat race.

“Just getting yourself in the position to be on the front row to give yourself the opportunity to win the heat race and get in the dash is important,” he said. “Once you’re in the dash you’re that much closer to the front in the feature.”

Sides won a heat race to lock into the dash, where a seventh-place finish lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“It was plagued with cautions,” he said. “There were a couple of guys who had flats. At the very end three guys ran out of fuel. At the same time it’s the same race for everybody. The rest of the cars made it on fuel. We were right there with the leaders the whole time. The leaders would get away in open track and we’d get to traffic and everybody would get caught back up.”

The fourth-place finish was the first top five for Sides in 17 races.

“It really is a boost to run well,” he said. “It takes a lot to get up and down the road and we have a lot of traveling in the next couple of weeks so it means a lot to run near the front.”

Sides also scored a pair of 13th-place results last week.

He timed in sixth quickest, placed third in a heat race and second in a qualifier on Tuesday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb. That was good enough to lock him in the dash, where he finished seventh.

“In those two heat races it really wore on the tires a lot,” he said. “They didn’t do anything to the track and I figured it was going to lay rubber. We put a harder tire on for the feature and that was not the way to go. We couldn’t get a hold of it. We did nothing but spin. We were terrible.”

On Friday, Sides qualified 14th quickest and ended second in a heat race at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. He then battled just outside the top 10 for most of the feature before ending 13th.

“We talked about it and talked about it not wanting to get too tight,” he said. “It seems like River Cities gets wetter as the night goes on. We put a little gear into it and we ended up too tight. It kept bicycling up on two tires when we got to running behind everybody else.”

Sides returns to competition this Friday and Saturday at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, for the 9th annual Oil City Cup with the World of Outlaws.
