Sides Battles Just Outside Top 10 During Rough Races in Washington

Fans,
Fans,

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Sept. 9, 2015) – Jason Sides narrowly missed the heat race inversion during both World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series races in Washington last weekend.

Sides qualified 15th quickest – a little more than a tenth of a second out of the inversion – on Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger and he timed in 13th quickest – less than seven hundredths of a second from the inversion – on Monday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

“Qualifying is everything,” he said. “We were just barely out of the inversion both nights. That puts you behind every time.”

Sides then finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race both nights to lock into the main event. However, both tracks were extremely rough and Sides decided not to push the issue.

He started on the inside of the eighth row on Saturday at Skagit Speedway, where he advanced into 10th before losing a spot in the closing laps to finish 11th.

“There were some holes you could run below if you really slowed down,” he said. “Late in the race you could run the top in turns three and four and it got pretty good. We got to 10th and I was behind a lapped car for what seemed like forever. About the time we passed him with about two laps to go (Kerry) Madsen split me and the lapped car for 10th.”

Monday’s feature at Grays Harbor Raceway was similar.

“It got really, really rough in turns one and two,” he said. “From the center off it was really bad also. We tried hard a few times on restarts and we’d get in that stuff and lose a spot or two. After that we got in line and rode around the top. That’s not my forte anymore. I like the bigger, smoother tracks.”

Sides ended with a 12th-place finish.

He returns to World of Outlaws action on Wednesday at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore.; Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the Gold Cup Race of Champions; and Sunday at Antioch Speedway in Antioch, Calif.
