Remembering Jason Johnson: #Forever41
June 24, 2018
Some things in life we hope to never face. The Sprint Car racing community is enduring one of those things with the passing of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series driver Jason Johnson.
Currently fifth in Series championship points, Johnson’s accolades on the track were plentiful: 12 World of Outlaws wins, five American Sprint Car Series championships, over 250 career Sprint Car victories and, of course, the 2016 Knoxville Nationals championship.
Checkered flags aside, Johnson took immense pride in his off-track accomplishments. The growth and well-being of his five-year old son, Jaxx. The relationship with the love of his life, Bobbi. The connections he made with each and every fan, every weekend, doing what he loved — racing. Jason loved racing.
“This was Jason’s dream. His dream was to race with the best. It was a challenge for him, and the World of Outlaws family were always there for him. For that, we are forever grateful,” Bobbi Johnson expressed to Jason Johnson Racing team representative John Saich.
“His dream was to race, to beat the best and to try and be the best,” Saich said. “And that’s what he did. He lived his dream.”
Johnson, 41, proved his talents behind the wheel by winning many of the sport’s biggest events, but more importantly stayed true to who he was as a kind, humble and compassionate man, setting a standard of excellence in those categories. Johnson was also known for being a savvy team owner, nurturing partnerships across the country to carry his family owned team to the highest levels of the sport against great odds.
“Jason Johnson had so many admirable qualities,” World of Outlaws Series Director Carlton Reimers said. “I enjoyed seeing him travel the country together with his family, living the dream every step of the way. His relationship with his son, Jaxx, was incredibly special and was a true testament to the consummate family man that Jason was.”
A father, a brother, a friend and a role model to many. Above all, Johnson is Jaxx’s hero. The pure joy on his son’s face in Victory Lane as recently as a week ago let everyone know how much Jason was loved. Jason left us battling for the lead, but he had already won the most important race.
For those wishing to help the Johnson family through this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been established through the World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund at GoFundMe.com/JasonJohnsonForever41
A memorial will be held for Jason on Wednesday, June 27 at 6:30PM at his JJR Shop, in Rocky Mount, Missouri, where he made his “dirt track shop of dreams,” according to Bobbi.
