Terry McCarl continued his tune-up for the 2008 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season on Friday night in Florida.

The native of Altoona, Iowa who won twice with the series last season was victorious at East Bay Raceway Park in the second of three nights of racing for the American Sprint Car Series. McCarl lined up 11th in the 25-lap contest and quickly charged his way to the front.

On the opening lap, he got around Kenny Adams who won at East Bay on Thursday night, as well as fellow Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car driver Joey Saldana, along with Tim Crawley and Brian Smith.

After a caution on the second lap, the remainder of the distance went non-stop, with McCarl quickly getting around Jason Johnson and Don Droud Jr. on the restart to move into the Top-Five with just two laps in the books. Two laps later, the native of Altoona, Iowa worked his way around Wayne Johnson and Gary Lee Maier to move into third.

McCarl took the second spot from Travis Rilat on lap six and next set his sights on leader Gary Wright. McCarl dove under Wright on the eighth lap to take the lead and worked his way through lapped traffic for the remainder of the distance to pick up the preliminary feature win.

By virtue of the points earned over the first two nights of the event, McCarl is locked into the A-Feature on Saturday night.

Other Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series drivers that took part in the event included: Tim Shaffer who finished eighth, Joey Saldana who was 11th, Daryn Pittman who was 15th and Jason Sides who was 21st.

In preliminary action, Shaffer finished fourth in the second eight-lap heat race, while Sides was fourth in the third heat. The fourth heat race saw McCarl finish third, while Saldana won the sixth heat, with Pittman coming home third in that same eight-lap contest.

Daryn Pittman won the first B-Main to race his way into the preliminary feature, while Sides was victorious in the second B-Main to also earn a spot in the 25-lap event on Friday night.

The drivers will all return to action tonight in the $10,000-to win Ronald Laney Memorial Kings of the 360’s at East Bay.
