Kraig Kinser Finishes Ninth in the Magic City Showdown at Nodak Speedway

Fans,
Fans,

Bloomington, Ind.—August 20, 2012— Kraig Kinser has always had a good set-up and run pretty well at Nodak Speedway in Minot, N.D. After a one-year hiatus due to flooding in the area, Kinser and his fellow World of Outlaws competitors returned high-banked three-eighths-mile on Sunday, Aug. 19, for the Magic City Showdown, with a very large crowd in attendance. Kinser entered the event with three career Top-10 finishes in four starts at the facility, and turned in another consistent run at Nodak, finishing ninth to earn his 35th Top-10 finish of the season.

Kinser lined up 11th in the 35-lap main event in the Hendrickcars.com Maxim and restarted 10th, following an open red flag on Lap-18. The final 17 circuits of the main event went caution-free, with the third-generation driver working his way up to eighth with seven laps-to-go, before North Dakota native Mark Dobmeier got around him with five laps remaining. Kinser opened the night at Nodak Speedway as the sixth-fastest driver in time trials. He finished fourth in the third eight-lap heat race to transfer to the A-Feature, where he finished ninth.

“We always want to finish a few spots higher, but after some of the bad luck we’ve had recently, it felt good to get a solid Top-10,” said Kinser. “It was tough to get in a rhythm early in the race with all the cautions. We had that longer green flag run at the end, and were able to gain a few positions.”

Prior to heading to Nodak Speedway, Kinser finished 16th in second round of the Duel in the Dakota at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., on Friday, August 17. He suffered a flat left rear tire on the third lap, which sent him to the work area. After changing the tire he restarted at the rear of the field. The native of Bloomington, Ind., would work his way forward on a track that became very difficult to pass on in the late going, to come home 16th.  He began the night as the 11th-fastest driver in qualifying of the 37 entries. Kinser stated on the front row of the third heat race, and finished third, just missing a spot in the dash.

At Junction Motor Speedway in Nebraska, on Tuesday, Aug. 14, Kinser finished 14th in the A-Feature, which marked the fourth and final round of the NAPA Auto Parts Kasey Kahne Challenge. In time trials his car would not fire, forcing him to miss his assigned spot in the order, and relegating him to one lap at the end of time trials. He lined up sixth in the first eight-lap heat race and finished fourth in that contest. The 30-lap main event found Kinser starting on the outside of the eighth row.

Kinser is currently sixth in the World of Outlaws championship standings on the strength of four wins, to go along with 35 Top-10 and 18 Top-Five finishes. He returns to action this coming weekend at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, in the Oil City Cup.

“We have a couple of days now to work on some things before we head to Edmonton,” said Kinser. “We’ve found a few items recently that should help us in the next few races. With the busy West Coast stretch that is coming up, we’ll use the early part of this week to make sure we’re ready.”
