Series Heads to Selinsgrove Speedway

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Selinsgrove Speedway will cap off the summer with a big Labor Day holiday two-race weekend featuring the United Racing Club/Patriot Sprint Tour in the 360 sprint car Summer Spectacular Saturday, Sept. 2, and the Craftsman World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series in the 19th annual Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Late Model Open Sunday, Sept. 3.

The 360 sprint cars, in their last race of the year at the track Sept. 2, will compete in a 30-lap main event paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start. The 360 sprint cars will be joined by the pro stocks in a 15-lap feature paying $500 to win and the roadrunners in a 12-lap event offering $300 to win.

Track gates on Saturday will open at 5 p.m. with qualifying at 7 p.m. Admission on Sept. 2 will be $15 for adults; $8 for students (ages 12-17), and kids 11 years of age and younger admitted free.

Following Saturday’s races, track officials will work on preparing the speedway for Sunday’s invasion by the Craftsman World of Outlaws Late Model Series for the Late Model National Open paying $8,000 to win the 40-lap A-main.

The track’s crown jewel event for the super late model division will offer a purse of more than $35,000.

The limited late models will compete in a 20-lap feature paying $1,000 to win Sunday night. The limited late model rules in effect for this race include 358 cubic inch maximum engines and any brand of 11 inch tires. The limited late model weight rule will be 2,350 pounds with driver.

In last year’s Late Model National Open, Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark., scored his first career win at Selinsgrove by holding off Rick Eckert of York for the victory.

Previously, Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., won three straight Selinsgrove Late Model Opens sanctioned by the World of Outlaws from 2013-2015.

Chris Shuey of Orefield won the inaugural Late Model Open in 1999 followed by a win in the 2001 race. Jeff Rine of Danville, the track’s 12-time champion, is the only four-time winner of the race, having won the Open in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009.  Nick Dickson of Lewistown is the only other repeat winner with victories in 2007 and 2012.

Other past winners of the Late Model Open include Kenny Pettyjohn of Millsboro, Del. (2000); Dale Kerstetter of Liverpool (2002); Jeff Smith of Blain (2003); Scott Haus of Hamburg (2004); Dan Stone of Thompson (2010); and Eckert (2011).

Tickets for the Word of Outlaws Late Model Series National Open will be sold on race day only. Fans who present a Selinsgrove Speedway rain check from any event during the month of August will receive $5 off adult general admission on Sept. 3. Adult general admission for the World of Outlaws show will be $30 ($25 with a Selinsgrove Speedway rain check); students (ages 12-17) will be $15; kids 11 and under FREE; and pit passes will be $40.

Track gates will open at 4 p.m. with qualifying slated for 7 p.m.

FREE camping will be permitted on the speedway grounds over the holiday weekend.  Campers must park along the tree line along Sand Hill Road or at the north end of the parking lot. Campers are not permitted to park in any of the center sections of the speedway lot.
