iRacing World of Outlaws ButtKicker Late Model Series Race Preview: Fairbury

iRacing World of Outlaws Late Models

Round two of the 2023 iRacing World of Outlaws ButtKicker Late Model Series takes the battle for this year’s $25,000 championship purse to Fairbury Speedway. As always, tonight’s action can be seen live starting at 9 p.m. ET on DIRTVision and at twitch.tv/iracing.

Last Race: Defending series champion Evan Seay won half of last year’s races on the way to the title, and he kicked off his championship defense with more of the same at Volusia Speedway Park. Seay swept the night with the fastest qualifying time, a win in the first heat race, and a perfect 50-for-50 laps led in the feature. His margin of victory was nearly two seconds over Barrett Bishop, who barely edged out Kendal Tucker for the runner-up spot.

Last Year: Seay led 49 out of 50 laps the last time the championship headed to Fairbury, but he didn’t lead the most important one. When the second and final caution flag flew with less than 10 laps to go, he’d been leading Hayden Cardwell by more than two seconds; after the restart, Cardwell took full advantage of the second chance and nipped Seay at the line by just .044 seconds in one of the closest finishes in series history.

Track Facts: Fairbury American Legion Speedway, known as “America’s Dirt Track,” brings top dirt racers to the fairgrounds in Fairbury, Illinois each year. The quarter-mile, semi-banked dirt oval is popular with racers and fans alike, having earned the UMP DIRTcar Track of the Year award three times in its history. Its signature event, the Prairie Dirt Classic, brings the World of Outlaws Case Construction Late Model Series to Fairbury each summer for a 100 lap, $50,000-to-win showdown—and its list of past winners reads like a who’s who of dirt late model racing.

Next Race: Following Fairbury, the iRacing World of Outlaws ButtKicker Late Model Series heads to Cedar Lake Speedway for its third round of the season on Monday, July 24. Former series champion Blake Matjoulis led every lap of last year’s Cedar Lake feature ahead of Seay and Dezmond Busby.
