Brandon Sheppard began his career as a third-generation driver from Illinois, racing Late Models in his mid-teens alongside father Steve Sheppard, co-owner of family-run Shepp’s Speedway – a track that formerly hosted weekly Sunday night racing until 2012 when the track ceased operations.
Sheppard first made headlines in 2012, climbing aboard the Rocket Chassis house car after regular pilot Josh Richards stepped aside to focus on his NASCAR opportunity. He made 18 appearances by the season’s end and garnered his first career victory with the Outlaws at Belle-Clair Speedway on September 9.
Returning to his family-owned #B5 machine for the years after, Sheppard made intermittent appearances with the Outlaws, collecting 5 more victories with the Series from 2013-2015. He made only one appearance in 2016, preceding what would become the biggest opportunity of his driving career for the following season.
In 2017, Sheppard returned to the Rocket Chassis house car full-time for the first time since 2012. The young, dominant Late Model driver wheeled his team to an impressive 18 wins, tying his predecessor in the Rocket1 Racing ride, Josh Richards, for the Series’ all-time single-season wins record. Sheppard collected his first World of Outlaws title and the team’s fifth championship during his first full season on tour.
After such a tremendous year in 2017, Sheppard followed it up with a runner-up effort in 2018 Series points championship, collecting 13 victories – again, the most of any driver that year. 2019 was his best season yet, winning a record-tying 18 Features yet again and his second World of Outlaws championship under car owner Mark Richards – the sixth in team history.
