World of Outlaws Invades Beaver Dam Raceway for 9th Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial

BEAVER DAM, WI — June 18, 2018 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series takes to the track at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin on Saturday, June 23 for the Ninth Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial Presented by Karavan Trailers.

Shane Stewart was victorious in the event last year over a hard-charging Kerry Madsen, who started 21st. Bill Balog won the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial in 2016, which marked his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win. The win for the eight-time Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Series champion was the first by a driver from that series with the Outlaws.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series first competed at Beaver Dam Raceway in 1996, with former Series champion Dave Blaney picking up the win in that event. A total of 15 drivers have visited Victory Lane with the Series at the track in the previous 24 Feature events over the last 21 years. Joey Saldana and Daryn Pittman each have three wins at Beaver Dam to lead all drivers in World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition, while Donny Schatz has reached Victory Lane twice at the high-banked, third-mile.

Leading the way this season for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Series is Schatz, the nine-time and defending Series Champion, who has 10 wins through the first 27 races of the season.

Brad Sweet is currently second in points and won the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial in 2014. The Californian has two wins thus far in 2018. David Gravel is third in the Series standings on the strength of three wins. Jason Johnson, who recently picked up his first two victories of the year, is fourth in points, with Daryn Pittman, a three-time winner at the third-mile, in fifth. Pittman also holds the track record at Beaver Dam Raceway, which he set in 2001.

Stewart is sixth in points, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, who is having a breakout season. The fourth-generation driver picked up his first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win on opening night in Florida in February and has added three more wins since. Logan Schuchart is eighth in the current standings, with rookie Ian Madsen ninth. Kraig Kinser, who won the 2012 Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial, is 10th in points.

Also on the road again in 2018 are veterans Jason Sides and Greg Wilson as well as young drivers Brent Marks, Jacob Allen and Clyde Knipp.

Joey Saldana is the only driver who has won the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial more than once, taking the checkered flag in the inaugural race in 2010 and repeating in 2011. In each of the last seven editions of the race, a different driver has visited Victory Lane, including Schatz, Stewart, Sweet, Kinser, Saldana, Balog and Craig Dollansky.

Tickets for the Ninth Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial Presented by Karavan Trailers at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI, on Saturday, June 23 can be purchased in advance online or by calling 815-344-2023 and at the track on race day.
