Schatz Dominates Black Hills for Sixth Victory of the Season

20-time champion Kinser second, Wolfe third; Meyers leads series by 83 points

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Aug. 23, 2011 – Donny Schatz had a bullet when the green flag flew on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series return to Black Hills Speedway. The four-time champion was sitting on the pole and powered forward to lead all 25 laps, slicing his way through traffic while holding off his Tony Stewart Racing teammate Steve Kinser, to claim his sixth win of the season and third in a row at Black Hills.

“Winning never gets old,” Schatz said as he smiled and posed for Victory Lane photos next to his #15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet. “My guys really went to work on our motor package to come up with something that’s really good. Passing cars is what people come to see so that lapped traffic made things a little bit exciting at the end. The top-side and cushion were really where the speed was tonight. We have some good tracks coming up. Castrol (Raceway) is a great track for us. I’ve won there and Cottage Grove (Speedway) and at Chico (Silver Dollar Speedway), which are also coming up. Looking forward to some more wins.”

Kinser, who was coming off a weekend sweep of World of Outlaws events, placed second as he and his crew seem to have found more speed since the Goodyear Knoxville Nationals earlier this month.

“We had another great car tonight,” said Kinser, of Bloomington, Ind., as he inspected his #11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet. “We’ve had some great cars here since we got things figured out a bit. We got bunched up there in traffic and I tried to find a way around Donny but he was just awfully strong tonight.”

Lucas Wolfe, the 2008 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, continues to build momentum as he recorded yet another top-5 finish.

“Another great run for us tonight,” said Wolfe, of Mechanicsburg, Pa. “Lapped traffic allowed us to catch back up to those guys and I had few opportunities to run up there and make a move. The track looked like it rubbered up a bit. Just a good night and good run for us again.”

With Schatz, of Fargo, N.D., leading the way, the top three broke away. Jason Meyers, the 2010 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, led a second pack of cars to the checkered flag. Meyers was fourth with the night’s fastest qualifier, Sammy Swindell, finishing fifth.

The Great Northern Tour wraps up for the Outlaws this weekend as the series heads to Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Aug. 26-27. For tickets, click http://www.slspromotions.com.
