BANK ROLL: McMahan Captures World of Outlaws Return to Belleville

Wins for the second time in a week as Dollansky, Meyers round out top three

BELLEVILLE, Kan. – June 3, 2011 –Paul McMahan dominated the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series return to the Belleville High Banks on Friday night by capturing his second victory in the past three events and setting a track record in the process.

“Horsepower was king tonight,” said McMahan, of Nashville, Tenn., who held off everybody from Steve Kinser to Craig Dollansky over 25 laps during the main event. “Speedway Engines has given us great pieces all year long and we’re finally closing these deals out. I was able to get going really well around the top groove of the race track and that’s why I always picked that lane on the restarts.”

The night started out with McMahan blistering the half-mile circular speedway en route to a track record in the Roth/Kahne-owned HR Cattle Maxim. The lap of 14.258 seconds eclipsed the previous mark of 14.321 set by Terry McCarl in 2009. It also was McMahan’s series-leading sixth Quick Time of the season.

McMahan then charged to the front in the feature at the drop of the green flag. On a double-file restart with 18 of the 25 laps complete, he went to the high groove and made it work. Steve Kinser was breathing down his neck in the Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet despite having had wrist surgery only a couple of days earlier, but then a right rear tire let go and sent Kinser into a flip.

Kinser stayed in the car, took it to the work area and returned much to the delight of the standing-room-only crowd, but McMahan was so strong nobody was going to catch him. Dollansky gave it his best shot in the Big Game Treestands/Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim, but wound up second. Defending series champion Jason Meyers surged from 15th to finish third in the Allstar Performance/DDNI/GLR Investments KPC.

“We had some trouble getting going tonight,” said Dollansky, of Elk River, Minn. “The top groove really was the place to be and I couldn’t really get going for a lap. We’re going to take a look at it and see what was the issue. However, you have to be happy when you can come home with a second in one of these things.”

While McMahan and Dollansky voted the top grove as the preferred line around the track, Meyers found the low line to be fast for his car.

“I noticed that Sammy went low and had some success with it but didn’t hold it down there throughout turn two so I tried to see if I could and it worked out for me,” said Meyers, of Clovis, Calif. “Everyone else was good around the top. I was just happy to finish where we did and learn a thing or two about this great race track.”

Series points leader Joey Saldana came home 5th to extend his points lead over Schatz to 19. Kinser now sits 48 back in third as the top six in points are separated by a mere 93 markers.

The Outlaws now head for Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Saturday, June 4.
