Dollansky Dives to Score Fifth Win of 2011 Campaign at Dodge City

Points Leader Schatz has engine woes, Saldana retakes lead in standings

DODGE CITY, Kan. — July 1, 2011 — Dry and hot conditions have forced city and local officials to ban fireworks in Southwest Kansas. However, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series staged a show that would put even the biggest and brightest fireworks to shame. Elk River, Minn native Craig Dollansky charged through the field and used a late race restart to grab his fifth win of the season and first victory at Dodge City Raceway Park.

“Tonight certainly was a work in progress as we had to keep adjusting throughout the heats and the dash,” said Dollansky in victory lane. “It always is a total team effort and to get that last restart was pretty cool. I wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen on it. I got a good run off of Sammy (Swindell) coming off of turn 2 and got under him and made it work.”

Swindell, who led 26 laps of the 30 lap main event, settled for second place after starting on the outside pole.

“We really didn’t want to see that caution with three (laps) to go,” said Swindell, a native of Germantown, Tenn. “Craig pulled of a pretty good move and I wasn’t able to get back past him. It’s a good night for Big Game Treestands.”

2010 Series Champion Jason Meyers finished in third. Meyers, a Clovis, Calif. native, sat on the pole for the night’s main event and had high hopes going into the 30 lap affair.

“We felt like we were really close tonight to getting our first win of the season,” said Meyers. “We maybe just missed something for the feature. However, we can take tonight and add it to our notes and go on from there.”

The nights fastest qualifier, Jason Sides, was fourth with five time Dodge City race winner Joey Saldana coming home in fifth. Fargo, N.D. native Donny Schatz was running fourth in the main event until problems with the engine on his sprinter regulated him to a 20th place finish.
