Craig Dollansky Captures Emotional Victory at Beaver Dam

Earns his fifth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series win of the year

BEAVER DAM, Wis. – June 29, 2013 – For the second time in his career, Craig Dollansky captured a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory at Beaver Dam Raceway, winning the Jim Boyd Memorial on Saturday night.

Polesitter Cody Darrah jumped out to an early lead before yielding to Dollansky on lap 14. Dollansky led the next three laps before Daryn Pittman surged to the front. Dollansky moved back around Pittman on lap 19 and led rest of the 40-lap feature event for the $10,000 victory.

Pittman was second with Tim Kaeding, Donny Schatz and Paul McMahan rounding out the top five.

“This is the Jim Boyd Memorial and he was Scott Boyd’s father,” said Dollansky, who is long-time friends of the Boyd family. “You know that family supported me for a long time, they owned the team that I raced for 10 years and Jim Boyd was just a great person and an inspiration for me and an awesome individual. He passed away a few years back. He’s gone but not forgotten and I know he was riding around with me tonight in spirit.”

Dollansky, of Elk River, Minn., was joined on the podium by a pair of drivers who had to weaver their way through the field to collect their paychecks. Pittman started seventh in his Great Clips GF1 after winning his heat race earlier in the night. Pittman could close the gap to Dollansky in traffic, but when Dollansky was on clear track Pittman couldn’t run him down.

The runner-up finish on Saturday was a great rebound race for Pittman, the championship points leader who gave up valuable ground to Donny Schatz on Friday night at LaSalle Speedway when he was involved in a couple of incidents that resulted in a 14th-place finish.

“We were good all night and I always enjoy coming here,” said Pittman, a native of Owasso, Okla. “This is one of my favorite race tracks. We put ourselves in position, just maybe needed to time trial a little better and really got up there and had a shot to win, just came up a little short. I think we were good enough to get around him on the bottom if any lapped cars would have held him up at all or if I hit it right. I passed him twice under green flag, once running second and third and once for the lead, but anytime you pass a good car like that you have to take advantage of it.”

Tim Kaeding’s Roth Motorsports KPC started in the 11th starting position after qualifying sixth and missing a dash transfer position in the heat race. Kaeding charged the high side of the track to pick up eight spots.

“We worked on the car all night got it way better in the feature, and my moto ‘live and die by the high-side’ and that’s where I went straight to the top,” said Kaeding, of San Jose, Calif. “We had a good car on the bottom too so I could jump around and move around and have a little fun, like crisscross back in the day.”

Schatz salvaged a fourth-place finish and earned the KSE Hard Charger award by picking up nine spots.

The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series is back on track Sunday night at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. Then the teams get a short reprieve off before heading to Huset’s Speedway on Wednesday night. After the midweek show the tour heads to Dodge City (Kan.) Raceway Park for the Boot Hill Showdown next Friday and Saturday night.
