Roster news begins to break with Blake Spencer’s plans to run for Rookie of the Year in 2019

CONCORD, NC – Dec. 3, 2018 – Revolution Racing and driver Blake Spencer have announced their plans to follow the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series in 2019. The St. Augustine, FL-based team competed in 16 events throughout 2018, placing them 16th in Series points, and will be in contention next year for the Rookie of the Year title.

“I feel like we’re ready, I feel like the program’s ready,” Spencer said. “We’ve got everything in check; we’ve got a stable car, chassis program, motor program, we’ve got good guys working for us. We’ve got huge support from our sponsors.”

Spencer and the Bozard Ford/Lincoln team made the switch from Longhorn to Rocket Chassis earlier this year, spawning a few hiccups in their operation. But they’ve got a brand-new attitude towards their equipment after some time in it at the end of this past season, and they’re ready for it to blossom in 2019.

Spencer has a number of other sponsors re-joining the team for the upcoming season, including Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center, Durham Race Engines, Sunoco and Swift Springs. Car co-owner Letti Bozard will again pair with Spencer to fund the operation.

Since starting up his racing career in 2002, Spencer competed at dirt tracks across his home state of Florida in the Mini Stock and limited-Late Model divisions, before tapping into the local Super Late Model scene in 2015. He knows that he’s got a lot of work ahead of him to catch up to the veterans on the circuit, but he’s ready to stick it out and take it on the arm for the betterment of his team and his own skill behind the wheel.

“Everybody’s kind of taking the underdog approach,” Spencer said. “The experience level of me as a driver probably isn’t as qualified as most, but that’s part of the journey. I think everybody that’s in our program is on that same page, from Bozard Ford all the way down to a tire changer. We’re all on board with getting that experience and growing into something new.”

Having never run a complete national tour schedule before, Spencer’s got his work cut out for him. But that makes a perfect candidate for the Rookie of the Year title – something he said he feels he has a legitimate shot at, barring any incredible misfortune.

For Spencer, consistency is the name of the game. In an effort to try and get as much time in the seat as possible this past season, the team ventured out to a number of tracks but were ultimately slowed by personnel and equipment changes, and an outright lack of experience. This year, the team aims to be much different. In his own words, “I don’t want to ‘wing-it’ this year. I want to go in there with confidence that we’ve got a legitimate shot,” Spencer said.

Now that his equipment and crew are in check, Spencer’s never been more confident in his abilities to improve over an extended period of time. It won’t be an easy road, but with a bit of muster and might, Spencer said a bit of intensity in the driver’s seat could really go a long way.

“I’ve got to have the experience in cars that I trust, have people behind me that I trust, and go drive it,” Spencer said. “That’s just going to come down to being more consistent, being more aggressive with myself. Not with other drivers, but with myself, and push myself a little bit harder than I have instead of taking the conservative road.”

If there’s anyone else out there with more rookie determination than Spencer and the Revolution Racing/Bozard Ford team, they’ve yet to be heard from.
