Donny Schatz, the two-time defending World of Outlaws champion and Joey Saldana, who finished a career-best second in points this season, lead a list of nominees for the prestigious 2007 All-America Auto Racing Team, which will be determined by voting members of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association.
For the second consecutive year, World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz has been nominated as one of the 10 finalists for the Economaki Champion of Champions which is awarded by National Speed Sport News.
For the past three seasons, NSSN has awarded the Economaki Champion of Champions to the driver of the year. The award is named after the longtime Editor and Publisher Emeritus of the paper, the legendary Chris Economaki.
Craig Dollansky and Daryn Pittman have a couple of things in common. They both earned championships with the former World of Outlaws Gumout Series. They also both scored their first career World of Outlaws A-Feature win at Perris Auto Speedway in California, leading all 30 laps of the respective races to earn their maiden voyage to the winner’s circle.
Concord, NC – Donny Schatz has certainly been fast this year and has been in position and contention for a number of wins, only to have bad luck befall him. Schatz put that all behind him on Saturday night to score his second win of the season in the Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on SPEED over Joey Saldana in the race which had been postponed by rain on Friday night.
History will be made this weekend with the inaugural Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway, as the World of Outlaws will compete with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series for the first time ever. The finale of the three-day event will be broadcast live on SPEED on Saturday, November 3 from 8-11 p.m. Eastern.
The World of Outlaws and World of Outlaws Late Model Series have collectively competed on 16 of the same tracks over the course of the 2007 season. Both began the year at Volusia Speedway Park during the Florida DIRTcar Nationals, with the World of Outlaws competing for three consecutive nights, followed by two nights for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. A total of 118 events have been contested by the two series, with countless thousands of miles traveled coast-to-coast, with it all culminating this weekend.

Attica, OH — Heavy rain throughout the morning at Attica Raceway Park that has left the parking lot and pit area under water, has forced the cancellation of the World of Outlaws event originally scheduled for tonight (May 21) at the high-banked 1/3-mile. There is no rain date as of this time.
For a rookie sprint car driver competing at the famed Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania can be very intimidating, but for the four drivers currently contending for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award with the World of Outlaws, it’s just another day on the job, as they compete night in and night out with the best sprint car drivers in the World.
These first-year drivers will compete in the biggest event of the season at Williams Grove this weekend, as the World of Outlaws visit the half-mile for the final time in 2007 to contest the National Open, which will again pay $50,000 to win. Adding even more luster to the event, the cameras from SPEED will be taping both nights of racing for broadcast.
Jamaica, VA — Jason Meyers and his team had very high expectations entering the first East Coast swing of the season and while the first two nights did not go quite as planned, they made up for it on Saturday night picking up their fifth win of the season in dominant fashion at Virginia Motor Speedway in the Third Annual Paul Sawyer Memorial.
Kerry Madsen definitely adds a “World” flavor to the World of Outlaws, as the only full-time driver with the series that hails from Australia. He has competed in three different countries this season and has earned wins in two of them. The native of St. Mary’s, NSW, Australia, opened the year racing in his native land, where he was victorious. Upon returning to the United States, he also triumphed, in just the second World of Outlaws event of the season.
